About the Artwork:The second of two canvases depicting pond life. Here, the view is of the surface of the pond through to the creatures who thrive on its banks and verges, and up to the birds in the trees and the sky. This is a painting of an English wild pond, showing the myriad forms of life both above and beyond the surface of the water. (see also “Above and Below”) Many of the wildlife featured are creatures that once flourished in our countryside but are now on the endangered species list. I was inspired to paint these utopian images to remind us of the magic of metamorphosis, and the perfection of the natural order of life. How long might it take a little child in your life to notice the birth of the dragon fly or the little flower fairy intent on disturbing the frog?”
