About the Artwork:This is the first of two canvases depicting life from below the pond through to the birds in the sky (see “Above and Beyond”). It depicts an English wild pond, ‘sliced’ in half to show the myriad forms of life both above and below the surface. Some of the wildlife featured are creatures that once flourished in our countryside which are now on the endangered species list. I was inspired to paint these utopian images to remind us of the magic of metamorphosis, and the perfection of the natural order of life. I wonder how long it might take a little child in your life to notice the synchronised swimming duck or the vole her golden pince-nez?”
