Watermarked A Call to the Wild

“A Call to the Wild” Original Artwork

I was inspired to paint this picture on hearing of the sad passing of a close friend from  my youth in Ireland. I think of him as the one who opened my eyes to the mysteries of the world both within us and around us. We spent many happy hours wandering around the lush Irish countryside, discussing the meaning of life and beyond. This was my immediate image I had of him embarking on to the next phase of his journey. Striding purposefully away from a gloomy urban world towards a green and fertile land where all the inhabitants live harmoniously together.  As the wrought iron gates slowly open to allow him entry, the iron flowers adorning the gates transform into vivid, living blooms as they become a part of the landscape within.

As well as a tribute to a dear friend, this is one of my attempts to portray the regenerative power of nature. I take great comfort wherever I see evidence of this. It gives me hope that the natural world will always prevail. This concept is still very much a work in progress for me. (see also “Moving In” and “Nature Triumphal”).
